Over 12,000 Vehicles Seized in Punjab Within a Single Day
Punjab witnessed one of the most aggressive traffic enforcement operations in its history, where more than 12000 Vehicles were seized within a single day. This massive crackdown was carried out by Punjab Police across all major districts, following strict directives issued by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to enforce the newly introduced traffic reforms.
The government has made it clear that the era of unchecked violations is over and that road discipline will now be ensured through strict law enforcement, heavy penalties, and zero tolerance for repeat offenders. According to Punjab Police, the crackdown will continue daily to restore order on roads and reduce the high number of accidents caused by irresponsible driving.
12,814 Vehicles Impounded in 24 Hours
During the 24-hour enforcement drive, police teams impounded 12,814 motorcycles, rickshaws, and various other vehicles. The majority of these vehicles were seized due to repeated violations, driving without licences, lack of proper documentation, and dangerous road behavior.
Police officials confirmed that targeted operations were carried out at busy roads, markets, and intersections in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sialkot. Vehicle seizures were particularly high in areas with frequent traffic congestion and high accident rates, indicating that authorities are focusing on high-risk zones.

Over 3,000 Arrests in a Single Day
The Punjab Police spokesperson revealed that 3,195 citizens were arrested within 24 hours for serious violations such as reckless driving, stunt riding, signal violations, and driving without licences. A total of 3,215 cases were registered during the operation.
Officials clarified that these arrests were made against individuals who repeatedly violated traffic rules or were involved in dangerously irresponsible behavior. The aim is not just to punish but to create a strong deterrence that forces citizens to follow traffic laws responsibly. Police say that unless strict action is taken, Punjab will continue to face rising traffic accidents and casualties.
Rs 63 Million Collected Through 50,480 Challans
Along with the arrests and impoundments, the police issued 50,480 challans in just 24 hours. These fines added up to more than Rs 63 million, highlighting the scale of violations occurring daily across the province. The highest numbers of challans were issued for riding without helmets, driving without licences, wrong-way driving, and not having vehicle documents.
Punjab Police also acted against environmental violations, issuing 3,511 challans to smoke-emitting vehicles and impounding 384 such vehicles to reduce pollution. The government aims to tackle both traffic safety and environmental hazards through this dual enforcement approach.
Fitness Certificates Suspended and Vehicles Declared Unsafe
During inspections, the police and Motor Transport Examiners seized fitness certificates of three vehicles found to be mechanically unsafe. Authorities confirmed that more such actions will follow, as unfit buses, vans, and rickshaws are a major cause of fatal accidents. Punjab Police is coordinating with the Transport Department to identify and remove unsafe vehicles from the roads permanently. Officials believe that strict technical inspections are needed to improve the overall safety standards of public transport and private vehicles alike.
Record-Breaking Licence Issuance: 42,561 in One Day
To address the long-standing issue of unlicensed drivers, the Punjab government has opened multiple facilitation centers and extended the working hours of driving licence offices. As a result, 42,561 licences were issued in a single day, marking a record-breaking achievement. Special camps in colleges, universities, and public offices are also issuing learner permits to help young drivers become legal. The government aims to eliminate unlicensed driving completely, as it is one of the major causes of traffic chaos and road injuries. Citizens are being encouraged through awareness campaigns to get licences before driving on public roads.
Weekly Traffic Enforcement: 257,000 Challans in 7 Days
Punjab Police reported that in the past week alone, more than 257,000 challans were issued, resulting in Rs 203 million in fines. These numbers indicate a sustained crackdown across the province, not just a one-day campaign.
Police stations have been instructed to submit daily performance updates, and district officers have been ordered to maintain strict supervision. The government believes that daily enforcement, combined with strict penalties, will gradually reduce violations and improve road discipline in the long term.
1,438 Road Crashes in a Day Highlight Safety Concerns
Even with strict enforcement, Punjab continues to face a high number of road accidents. In the last 24 hours, 1,438 road crashes were reported across the province. These accidents resulted in 16 deaths and 1,652 injuries. Out of the injured, 677 were shifted to hospitals while 943 received first aid on-site from Rescue 1122 medical teams.
Most of the accidents involved motorcycles, highlighting the dangers of overspeeding, underage driving, and riding without helmets. Authorities say that stricter enforcement combined with public education is essential to reducing casualties.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has prioritized traffic reforms as a key part of her governance agenda. Punjab aims to move toward a modern, technology-driven traffic management system with smart cameras, e-challans, digital monitoring, and strict implementation of lane discipline.
The government believes that safe roads are essential not only for public safety but also for economic activity, transport efficiency, and environmental improvement.
